Skin Boosting Collagen Latte Recipe: Turmeric Latté With Collagen

SKIN BENEFITS OF TURMERIC  Troubled skin (think eczema, psoriasis, acne, rosacea, etc.) is usually rooted in inflammation. Turmeric’s active component, curcumin, has been shown to exhibit anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-neoplastic properties making it a very healing spice to add to your diet. Curcumin can also reduce wound healing time and improve collagen deposition in the skin. BLACK PEPPER BOOST Studies have shown that adding black pepper to turmeric increases the bioavailability of the curcumin by 2000%. That’s a lot! So don’t forget to add black pepper with turmeric whenever possible. SKIN BENEFITS OF COLLAGEN  Collagen is a protein naturally found throughout our bodies. It helps keep our skin plump and elastic. This in turn naturally helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, stretch marks and cellulite. Sounds like a dream, right?? As we get older our bodies produce less and less collagen. I know, very sad news. But on a positive note, we can get collagen from external food and supplement sources, which can help improve skin elasticity, skin texture and skin hydration. Added bonus - collagen also helps to improve joint health, gut health and promotes good quality sleep! FOOD SOURCES  Great food sources of collagen include bone broth and organ meats. If that’s not your jam you can also take it as a supplement and add it to your drinks (coffee, lattes, smoothies, etc.). BUYING TIPS If you’re buying collagen as a supplement, quality matters. Look for hydrolyzed collagen peptides as it is a more bioavailable source that is easier for the body to digest, break down and absorb. Also, make sure it comes from pasture-raised or grass-fed cows. If you only eat fish and no other meat, go for marine collagen, just make sure it comes from wild-caught fish.
